Blakenhall Gardens was a 1960s high-rise municipal estate, half a mile from the city centre. The decision to demolish it and redevelop was included in the ABCD masterplan, and in 2004 we undertook an Options Appraisal to identify the preferred redevelopment option. Subsequently, in 2005/06 we then wrote the Development Brief for the detailed design of the preferred option, which includes a new street layout, housing, a park, a Town Square, shops and community centre. This was the basis for the selection of a commercial developer to undertake the redevelopment.
