Fairfields is a 1960s housing estate of around 190 houses, designed to a Radburn layout, which is the location of various environmental and social problems. In 2000 we undertook a survey of resident opinion, and drew up a programme of proposed improvements. The central strategy is to reverse the fronts and backs of the majority of houses, to increase security, privacy, and car parking provision. The implementation is happening in three phases: the first phase was completed in 2005, and the second phase will be completed in 2009.
